Golden Butterflies by Cat Vibert- Mixed media, Watercolor, Gold Leaf and Butterfly Wings
I had some butterfly wings in an envelop.  This painting seemed like a better place for them.

Tho seasons have clipped my wings

I still taste nectar

An Angel for Annie
September 15, 2009 by catvibe

On her wedding day
Annie sat with the angels,
Her toe dipped in tears.

In memory of Annie Le, a Yale Student who was to be married on Sunday September 13th. Instead of a wedding on that day, Annie’s senseless murder was confirmed. With deepest condolences to her family, fiance and friends, your pool of tears is felt by the world.

Faeries, Facebook and Health Care

When the night descends
And faeries light their fires
Magic springs aglow

Horse and Llama
Digitally altered photo

“What do you think that meant?”

“I don’t know, probably something political.”

“Oh yeah, most likely.”

“Have you seen the woman lately?”

“No, not sure where she is these days.”

“Probably on Facebook.”

“Either that or painting.”

“I heard she’s pissing her blogger friends off because she hasn’t been blogging much lately.”

“Whatever. She came over here the other day when you were off at the barn and started talking to me about health care.”

“Really? But you’re a llama!”

“And you’re a horse, what’s your problem? Anyway, we llamas are often sought out by the humans. You know, for our legendary wisdom.”

“That’s kind of ridiculous.”

“Thanks, thanks a lot. Anyway, she was telling me about this status update that went viral on Facebook the other day. She was kind of excited about it because everyone was posting it. She said it even spread to Twitter.”

“What did it say?”

“No one should die because they cannot afford health care, and nobody should go broke because they get sick. If you agree, please post this as your status for the rest of the day.”

“And it actually went viral?”

“Totally. First time that ever happened according to her. I’m surprised there isn’t more news about it. But you know the media. If there’s no yelling and screaming it likely won’t get much press.”

“Maybe humans really do care!”

“Well, being a llama, I told her to keep calling and writing her representatives in Washington to demand a public option. I mean, let’s be real here!”

Summer Dreams

Lazy Summer dreams,
Pillow tufted heads of pink
Ice cream licked slowly

Crystal candy tongue
You stand and salute me
Liquid languid lilt

Just Another Orchid
April 7, 2009 by catvibe

Long legs unfurling
They descend, speckled tongues wag
Did I hear a laugh?

It’s orchid season. See another beautiful orchid at Sarah’s blog. Thanks to everyone who submitted poetry (especially to Sarah for the audio!) for this week’s extravaganza which will be posted on Friday.

Valentine’s Special: When Muses Laughed, a poem cycle
February 13, 2009 by catvibe

When Muses Laughed
A Cycle of Poems

1. Sonnet: The Invitation

What muse has touched the lash upon your eye?
What tender thoughts has she provoked within?
A deeper ocean there within resides,
Where muses bathe in waters warm as sin.
It’s there I saw a ghost of you swim by,
T’was just a glimpse, a play within a play,
I asked the muses then if they would lie?
And with a laugh, “Indeed we do!” said they.
With this, mistrusting everything alike,
As muses fraught with arrows leap and bound,
I’ll set the veil upon a pointy spike,
And utter hence to you in gentle sounds;
If whispered soft my pleas could warm your skin,
Let tender fingers touch where muses reign.

2. Limerick: The Answer

I sent a poor man a love sonnet
And let him set down there upon it.
He struggled for hours,
To say his not nowers,
For there on his head was a bonnet.

3. Senryu: The Resolve

Therein lies the cat,
Revealing the knead, a claw
Soft purring soothes heart

Notes on inspiration: a thank you to master sonnet writer Scott Ennis, (and let us not forget The Bard himself) for the tutelage on sonnet writing, to the memory of Dorothy Parker for the humor in cynical response, and to my cat, Marlow, with whom I am passionately in love.

FEBRUARY

Orange covered sky
Winter’s rising from the bay
Warming hints of blue

MARCH

Dawn, the rising sun
On the Vernal Equinox
Vallejo Stonehenge

Moon follows sun’s path
Full face smiles on Spring’s first eve
Crane points to Aries

APRIL

Rising moon looms full
Shades of pink and grey tint sky
Where has the month gone?

Moon lantern through lace
Cable car flies up the tracks
Am I to sprout wings?
