Moonlight on Snow by Cat Vibert
Oil on Canvas
Twas in the snowy moon I heard your call
As silent footsteps wandered down the path
I heard you and upon my knees did fall
And cried to you my heart’s unending wrath
I raised my arms as branches to the moon
And called to you to save me from this pain
The fairy stories woven in my looms
Have shrouded me in skeins of ices plain
But there in silent fields of snowy white
A sudden warmth came flooding through my soul
As seeds of Love will fly on wings of night
The mysteries of longing take their toll
As sure as night will rend its snowy hand
Love’s touch will melt the hour in the sand

Happy Valentine’s Day everyone! I apologize for not getting around to blogs. Besides painting this week, I overdid the computer thing and have the dread computer arm thing going on, but I’ve been resting and am on the mend. I will be around soon to catch up.
Congratulations to Jozien for winning the print of the Golden Buddha.
Thank you so much to all who participated. There are many excellent poems in the bunch, if you haven’t read through them, I recommend you take the time. Many of them left me in tears (of joy of course). Here is the link.
Finally, a reminder to vote for me today and everyday until 2/22 at the WNC On the Verge emerging artist competition.

Cat, there's something about the silence in your poetry… it's as if you're not speaking, but your heart is doing the talking. I hear this piece like it's coming from your heart. I don't hear your voice. I hear a muffled "thud" and these words hidden in between.
Your image shows the stark contrast you express with your beautiful words. Soft but unforgiving snow, and black tree trunks with bare branches, and the moon, full and silver and throwing its light… And your final line… Well, love melts everything. It is that powerful.
Cat, your poem made my eyes sting. The last six lines are "Love" in a nutshell. And only such a tender soul as you can express it so tenderly. I hope you had a lovely Valentine's Day!

Cat, I think I like every painting you do better than the last. I love this one. You made some beautiful choices here. The trees, and trodden path, are arranged in a way that lead our eyes to that fat, waxing moon. But then you conceal the moon with those fingered branches, also reflected in the trees' roots. I feel like something is clinging, or cracking. There's a stark beauty to the scene, but an icy loneliness, too. It's absolutely riveting.
The poem melted me, especially the lines that Nevine pointed out. The transition from "snow" to "sand" was brilliant. It brought an automatic warmth, while also alluding to time's ephemeral nature. And to think that all of this flowed from within made it that much stronger. The purity of snow seems a perfect backdrop for a moonlight rebirth.

Cat, sorry I am late to this, but I just voted for you. Can't wait to hear the results!

Oh Sarah, your comment (and your twitter post) made me feel like you not only saw my painting, you went into that scene and walked in it. I can't tell you how good it makes me feel, your comment. You have spoken what I wanted to communicate in painting the scene, so perfectly. Also, thank you for noticing about the snow to sand transition. I was thinking of the hourglass sand, but after writing it, I thought about how the sand and snow were like different seasons and how love changes the season from ice snow to warm beaches.

I think this is one of your best paintings ever. Sublime, Cat. The poem is so lyrical and romantic. Paired with the lovely image, this makes for a perfect post.
