Throughout my life I’ve been chasing the creative muse in music, audio arts, photography, painting and writing. In 2007 when my kids left the nest for college, I traveled extensively in Southeast Asia, India and Nepal, doing documentary work and exploring the cultures and customs of the wonderful people I was fortunate to meet. When I returned to the US in 2008, I left the busy life of the San Francisco, CA for a quiet country life outside of Asheville, NC. With my aging father in tow, we moved to a house in Fairview that looks across the road to a beautiful field of horses and trees. I set up my painting studio in the room with the best light and a view of that field and a group of trees I like to call The Three Graces. They are a continual source of inspiration for me in both painting and poetry.
A self-taught artist and lover of culture and metaphor, I draw from inspirations and insights gained from nature and my travels to inspire my paintings. As a photographer, I like to play with the light and motion of a subject to capture movement in still images. I create media collages using digital processes that combine my painted artwork and photography to create dynamic and colorful images that draw the observer inward.
Current Projects:
The Headless Buddha, Watercolor and Digital Collage: A series inspired by Headless Buddha statues in Thailand. Headless Buddhas are frequent in Southeast Asia, as their heads have been plundered for one reason or another over the centuries. The series uses the imagination to explore metaphor and psychological states of being using the Headless Buddha as a subject.
The Three Graces, Watercolor and Digital Collage: A series inspired by the three trees and various animals that live in the field across from my house. Peacocks, horses, and one very shabby llama.
