The First Crocus of Spring, by Cat Vibert
Available in Art Store
As winter lifts her blanket from the earth
The faeries stir in caves beneath the ground
Amidst the yawns are greetings filled with mirth
As laughter melts the ice in joyous sounds
There’s Oberon awake and standing tall
He stretches to shake off the last of sleep
To Titania, still cold, he lends his shawl
Then turns to build a fire in the keep
The other faeries start to sing and dance
They whirl and swirl inside that stinking cave
Until one peeps her head out to advance
No longer to be chained as winter’s slave
Her magic tricks to please in offering
The opening of hearts to wild Spring

Ah i love it, the words for my feelings
Today my heart was open to wild spring

It knew it's beauty
nothing could contain it
from the cold earth
it thrust it's way up
into the sun
to absorb it's glow

I'm so awed by that photo. It looks like a lantern floating on an underground stream…and yes, opening spring. Stunning, Cat.
Why is it that my favorite line of this delightful poem was, “They whirl and swirl inside that stinking cave”? I got the biggest smile from it–probably because it felt as playful and irreverent as a faerie poem ought. And the whole thing danced with such a joyful cadence. It felt like a stretch and awakening–not from the dream, but from the cold reality of winter.
Give me your hands if we be friends! We all need to let our Puck out.

Cat your photo is soooo magnificent! It glows with warm and hope after the long cold winter.
I can hear the clear laughter of the faeries in your lines. It sounds so joyful and playful. Just what we're all waiting for. Lovely!

Cat, that's an absolutely gorgeous photo, worked as only Cat's hands know how to work something. And your poem carries inside it the very spirit of spring. Loved it!

Thank you so much everyone! I feel like I’ve been in the stinking cave for so long that seeing that first crocus was as magical as I tried to make it look for you. ♡

Finally! Your sonnet has awakened my urge to break the bonds of this long winter! This is beautifully imagined and written.

What a beautiful painting, Cat! The poem is as always fantastic. We don’t have Spring here yet, but there are signs and it makes me feel a lot better. Can’t wait!
